Now that Granny is retired and an elderly member of the LGBTQ+ community...

...Granny decided that at her time of life it was fitting to give something back to her own community who in a way have been her family all her life, and with finding time on her hands she set up the group.

One very important point when caring for a loved one with a Dementia related illness is do not forget to look after your own health as sometimes things become difficult and exhausting and can mount up on you without you noticing.

Gay people can be a little more flamboyant and outgoing and less tolerant of situations which become out of their control.

An older gay person can become withdrawn, not wanting to mix, frightened of what is going on around them, and unsure of the situation they find themselves in. and this is precisely why GGAT has created.

If you would like to join the group and maybe open dialogue to help those others who are caring for a loved one right now then please JOIN THE CAUSE, it’s a call to arms boys and girls, help Granny make a difference, I’m sure, we can do it together.

So, to all my good apples out there, why not become a friend of Granny Smyth or a member of GGAT to add your voice to the debate. We must, TALK, TALK, and TALK some more.

I can’t emphasise enough that we need you to send in your individual experiences and Pics or Videos of caring for a loved one, which in turn will help even in a small way, someone else who is just beginning the journey.

As many of you already know, this is a truly personal and heartfelt journey for me, therefore I promise with wholehearted endeavour I will ensure that the aims of the group are fulfilled, and that at a point in the very near future all LGBTQ+ members will be cared for in a safe and loving environment and free from fear, stigma, discrimination and homophobia.

There are approx, 70,000 LGBTQ+ members in the UK suffering from some form of Dementia right now, so your support is never more needed than it is today.

You can DM me on FB, send pics or videos of yourself and your loved one, or email me, leave your pics in the comments.

Kindly note that any information you send in, you are agreeing to me reposting the text, photo or video on the group page.
