Is there an Alzheimer’s online community group in your area? Check your local Alzheimer’s Associations for LGBTQ+ community members.

A full range of helpful information is available at LGBTQ+ Living with dementia (Alzheimer’s Society), which includes invaluable information to the community.

Interesting fact: Women have more chance of developing Alzheimer’s than men during their lifetime.

There is very little one to one direct help for LGBTQ members who are suffering from Dementia (GGAT will be working on that one) but I have found on general information non specific to LGBTQ help and support can be found through Age UK offices across the country.

Age UK now have Reach which is a volunteer telephone support service for older LGBTQ members, also for those members of the LGBTQ community suffering from a Dementia related illness.

Granny suggests this is another branch of support on a range of subjects some of which are listed below.

  • General help
  • Making important decisions
  • Benefits and finances
  • Making Wills and creating LPA
  • Help in the home
  • Digital skills
  • Befriending

Dementia UK have their Admiral nurses. Again, this service is not specific to LGBTQ members of the community but they are specially trained nurses who provide a dedicated support service for all Dementia sufferers.

Lest you forget. GGAT are here to help too.
