Here at GGAT we are saddened to have to say that there is still homophobia and discrimination and stigma within the care sector which needs to be addressed immediately by the relevant authorities.

Gay people have the exact same rights as any other person suffering from dementia and should not at any time be discriminated against because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

They are often defined by their diagnosis rather than by their own individuality. Very sad, Granny thinks.

With the ever-increasing gay population suffering from Alzheimer’s, it is essential to priorities their individual orientation and gender preference.

I hope that in the immediate future much more training can be given to those working in the caring sector especially those in dementia care so that they are more aware of their patients individual needs and can support those patients in a sympathetic and loving way as they are often left alone in this world frightened and with no family or friends for support, and here at GGAT we intend to have lively debate on the subject and try and find solutions. If we must ask for repeated offenders to be removed from the care sector, then that is what we shall do.
