Here at GGAT we touched on early onset dementia when a while ago we heard from Janice who was looking after her son Michael in the Wirral who had been diagnosed with early onset Dementia in his late 30.s, well im pleased to say I’ve heard from Janice and everything is going well, however the subject has been raised again with a message from Henry from Nottingham who is looking after his son Lucas 53 yrs old who recently had noticed his sons behaviour had changed, his memory was haphazard to say the least, he was forgetting family names and sometimes his speech wasn’t quite right.

So this raised alarm bells in Henry’s head so he decided to take his son to the doctors to see what if anything was going on.

Now at the moment getting any diagnosis for Dementia is difficult and getting a diagnosis for early onset dementia is even more difficult partly because of similarities in symptoms of other illnesses so it’s usually a case of more investigations and tests required usually at a memory assessment centre where a more indepth examimation can be made which should lead to diagnosis of what is really going on.

I’ve replied to Henry privately who lost his wife of 55 yrs only 2 yrs ago leaving him to cope with Lucas on his own which is more stressful as Henry worries about who would look after Lucas if anything happened to him.

I’ve given Henry as much information as I have available but I thought it would be helpful to share the link on early onset dementia diagnosis written by Dementia Research which gives invaluable information on the subject.
