There are approximately 6 million unpaid heroes 2 million of which are not receiving any support for caring for a loved one living with Dementia and approximately 500 thousand of those will be LGBT members of the community.

One of GGAT’S main aims is to ensure that not only is good care available across the board but that the LGBT members living with Dementia also receive the best care and support available.

For carers to be left to cope with no support after diagnosis is incomprehensible, the stress that they will have to go through to endure the process of caring for a loved one often brings carers to their knees, its not just the medical side of things but the hoops that they have to jump through to access support in different areas, and is often leaving carers, lonely, heartbroken and some isolated from society.

Dementia diagnosis

Here at GGAT we are totally behind other large Dementia organisation who are trying to get the subject of better support at the forefront of the governments agenda and can I just say again this is one of the main issues here at GGAT that we get asked about, therefore if you can send in text, pics or videos of your experiences of caring for a loved one living with dementia remember your comments could be just what another carer is wanting the answer too.
